Insulation FAQ — Anchorage, AK

Quick answers to the questions Anchorage homeowners ask most.

How much can insulation save on energy bills?

It varies with the home and what's there now, but heating and cooling is the biggest energy cost in most houses, and sealing and insulating an under-insulated attic and walls can meaningfully cut that. The bigger the gaps you start with, the bigger the improvement. A free estimate gives you a realistic picture for your home.

Spray foam, blown-in, or batts — which is best?

Each has a place. Spray foam air-seals and gives the highest R-value per inch; blown-in gives even, gap-free coverage in attics and existing walls; batts are cost-effective in open walls and floors. The right mix depends on the space, your budget, and your goals — we'll recommend what fits.

What R-value do I need?

R-value measures resistance to heat flow, and recommended levels depend on the area of the home and the climate — attics need much more than walls, for example. We'll suggest target depths for your attic, walls, and crawl space so you insulate to a level that pays off rather than guessing.

Do you air-seal before insulating?

Yes — sealing the gaps and penetrations that let air leak is what makes insulation actually work. Adding insulation over unsealed leaks leaves a lot of performance on the table, so air-sealing comes first wherever it's practical.

Can you insulate existing walls without tearing them open?

Often, yes. Dense-pack insulation can be injected into finished walls through small access holes that are patched afterward — no full tear-out. We'll let you know whether your walls are a good candidate.

Are there rebates or tax credits for insulation?

Energy-efficiency rebates and tax credits exist in many areas and change over time, with eligibility set by the program and your utility or tax situation. We can point you toward what's commonly available; confirm current details with the program or a tax professional.

Do you serve areas outside Anchorage?

Yes — we cover Anchorage, all of the Anchorage Municipality, and nearby Eagle River, Wasilla, and Palmer.
