Fireplace FAQ — Anchorage, AK

Quick answers to the questions Anchorage homeowners ask most.

What does a new fireplace cost?

It depends on the type (gas, wood-burning, or electric), the venting required, any new gas line or electrical work, and the surround or mantel finish. Electric units are usually the least expensive to install; wood-burning with new venting the most. The fastest way to a real number is a free quote — tell us about your space.

Gas, wood, or electric — which is right for me?

Gas is clean and convenient — instant flame, adjustable heat, no wood to haul. Wood-burning gives real flame and radiant heat but needs venting and ongoing upkeep. Electric is the simplest to add anywhere since it needs no gas line or chimney. The best choice depends on your room, fuel access, and budget.

Can you add a fireplace where there isn't one?

Often, yes. Many direct-vent gas and electric fireplaces can be added to an interior or exterior wall without an existing chimney — gas vents through the wall or roof, and electric simply needs power. We'll assess the wall, framing, and venting path during the quote.

Do I need a chimney for a gas fireplace?

Not necessarily. Direct-vent gas fireplaces are sealed and vent through an exterior wall or the roof; ventless models need no chimney at all. A traditional wood-burning fireplace, however, does need a proper chimney or Class-A venting.

How long does installation take?

An electric fireplace can be done in a few hours. A direct-vent gas fireplace is often about a day. A wood-burning fireplace or insert that needs new venting, a flue liner, or masonry work takes longer. We'll give you a timeline up front.

Are gas fireplaces safe?

When installed correctly, yes. Direct-vent units draw combustion air from outside and exhaust outside through a sealed system. Proper venting, clearances, and a code-compliant gas connection are essential — which is why it's a job for a qualified installer, not a DIY project.

Do you serve areas outside Anchorage?

Yes — we cover Anchorage, all of the Anchorage Municipality, and nearby Eagle River, Wasilla, and Palmer.
