What an inspection covers
An inspection looks past the firebox at the parts that fail quietly: the flue liner, the crown at the top, the cap, the flashing where the chimney meets the roof, and the masonry itself. It's worth doing before you buy a home, after a chimney fire or storm, and as a periodic safety check — catching a cracked liner or a failing crown early is far cheaper than fixing the damage it causes.
